Description: Originated in Ghana, West Africa and Congo. After 1960s, miracle fruit was introduced to Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Sichuan and Guizhou in China. The miraculin extracted from miracle fruit has a strong sweetening effect. It is reported that 0.1 mg of miraculin can produce lasting sweetening effect: red glucoside pigment and flavonol pigment extracted from miracle fruit peel can be used as food and beverage colorants. The dried powder of miracle fruit can be prepared into chewable food. Miraculin can inhibit appetite, and can be used to develop health products for weight loss and appetite suppression. It has been recognized as a harmless food additive in Japan.
