1.Brief Introduction
 
Acerola cherry, also known as West indian cherry,is drupaceous fruit, whose form varies from round to conic. When mature, the fruit can be red, purple or yellow. The weight of fruit is 3-16g.
 
Acerola cherry is rich in pectin and pectin hydrolase, carotenoid, plant fiber, protein, sugar, vitamin A, B1, B2, VC, niacin, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and other minerals. It is especially famous for its rich VC and is an excellent source of natural VC. Its VC content is 35 times higher than that of lemon and 17 times of strawberry, and 11 times higher than that of guava, which is thought to be extremely high in VC. It is the king of VC. Acerola cherry can be used as a natural antioxidant in the food and cosmetic industries. China’s Ministry of Health notice No. 9 of 2010 allows acerola cherry fruit to be produced and operated as ordinary food.
